In a major sport and tourism coup, Perth is set to host some of Australia’s top women’s soccer players in an exclusive, first-of-its-kind event later this year.
After already announcing plans on Sunday to bring Supercars to Perth in 2026, the WA government confirmed the Perth International Football Cup will take place in August and September.
Women’s Super League teams Manchester City, West Ham United and Leicester City, and French league one side Paris Saint-Germain will head to Perth for the week-long competitive exhibition tournament.
Matildas stars Mary Fowler, Alanna Kennedy, Mackenzie Arnold, Katrina Gorry, Clare Hunt and Courtney Nevin are among the current players who could compete in the four teams.
Hot on the heels of the Paris Olympics, the teams will play two matches each at HBF Park before a final double-header at Optus Stadium.
Premier Roger Cook said the event is expected to attract hordes of local, interstate and overseas fans.
“The Perth International Football Cup is the first of its kind, and will see some of the world’s best players and teams compete right here in WA, including some of our Matildas,” he said.
“This event will attract thousands of visitors to our state, supporting local jobs, local businesses and keeping our economy strong.”
The tournament runs from August 26 to September 1. Pre-sale registration is now available here.
