One of the things I adore about Paul is his love for his family and his Polish heritage. Paul is taking that love and mixing it with his new love for directing and doing a PSA for Welcome.us.

Paul Wesley is combining his passion for directing and his Polish pride to create a new PSA for Welcome.us, a non-profit dedicated to celebrating America’s immigrant tradition. Welcome.us is currently celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month, and Vampire Diaries star Paul has traveled all the way to Poland to interview his grandfather for a very special PSA.

“Very excited to be directing a PSA for Welcome.us – Check out the site and stay tuned for Immigrant Heritage Month this June,” Paul tweeted last month. The actor, who changed his surname from Wasilewski to Wesley for acting, has a strong connection to his Polish heritage. Up until the age of 16, he spent four months of every year in Poland and still speaks Polish fluently. He told Onet.pl: “My grandparents live in Warsaw and I visit them often. I’m very proud of my heritage.” He is funnelling that pride into this PSA, and even traveled to Poland to interview his grandfather for the short.

“Interviewing my grandfather in his living room in Warsaw for my Welcome.us PSA,” Paul captioned an Instagram photo of his adorable grandfather sitting in an arm chair in what we assume is his house, camera equipment surrounding him. Paul has also shared other photos from his trip to Europe, including a snapshot with his nephew Henry and the view of the lovely city from his window. It’s very cool to see Paul’s family heritage and his vocation combining in such interesting ways. We can’t wait to see the finished product!

Okay if you haven’t watched last night’s season finale … stop reading now!

The Hollywood Reporter did a Q&A with Julie Plec on the plans for season 6!

Following the season-five finale, executive producer Julie Plec talks to THR about the return of a fan favorite, Elena’s devastation and the mysterious fates of Damon and Bonnie.

The Vampire Diaries is heading for a “reset.”

With Mystic Falls still cloaked under the “no-magic” spell and Damon and Bonnie dead, The CW drama won’t look the same when the new season kicks up again in the fall. A substantial amount of time will have passed and the gang may not be in one place – at least not in the early going.

“The way we look at it, season six is a beautiful and organic reset. The theme of the season is everybody gets to start over. That’s what we’re going to do,” executive producer Julie Plec tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The new season will be a departure from the “massive genre extravaganza” Vampire Diaries has become, instead putting the focus back on character and their often complicated internal and psychological conflicts.

“We’re trying to take the show away from the massive genre extravaganza where each season we try to top each other with the bigger bad, more exciting mythologies and boil it back down to the beginning, which is tension, suspense, romance, psychological horror, simple horror, vampires living in secret, people discovering their secret and coming after them,” Plec promises.

“Our heroes who have splintered off need to find their way back to each other emotionally and geographically as they fight to restore order to their home so they can actually return and not be scattered for good.”
