I finally sat down and caught up all the images from the appearances Paul has attended the last few months while I have been unable to update.

Our guess is that “Vampire Diaries” star Paul Wesley probably already knew he was gonna win the Male Breakout Star award at the Teen Choice Awards when we caught up with him before the show taped on Sunday (Aug 8).

That could explain why he was acting all cool and collected when he was text messaging (“cliched”, he admitted) on the carpet.

Paul teased us about what’s going on with his character (a lot of “growth,” getting “tougher”) and the show (Catherine is back, werewolves are a-coming), and what a great time he’s having and how it’s changed his life dramatically.

He also talked about how hot it is on the VD set in Atlanta and he actually scoffed, yes, scoffed, at the heat at Universal Studios on the hottest LA day of 2010.

“This is the the hottest day of the year?,” he asked. “This is nothing!”

We were however, a little dismayed that he doesn’t have a Twitter account yet. We thought everyone on “Vampire Diaries” was a Twitter freak!

With all the hooplah surrounding Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) feelings for Katherine (Nina Dobrev) on “Vampire Diaries”, it’s sometimes easy to forget that he wasn’t the only Salvatore brother to fall prey to her charms.

While Stefan (Paul Wesley) may claim to be madly in love with Elena, once upon a time he only had eyes for her…um, look-alike. So obviously, we couldn’t help but wonder how Katherine’s return would affect him. Our interest was really peaked though when we caught a season two preview clip at Comic-Con, in which Katherine tells Stefan she loves him, only to stab him right after (hey, love hurts right?).

“So, she tells me she loves me and then stabs me ? what’s going on there?,” Paul said. That’s what we’d like to know!

Paul implied that Stefan won’t be able to entirely resist his former flame.

“Initially, he’s repulsed by it and then I think he was once in love with her to a certain extent ? whether she manipulated him or not? but she’s super powerful and capable of pulling Stefan away from Elena a little bit and I think it will be interesting to explore that.”

Hm, a little Katherine-Stefan action could certainly be interesting and setup the “love square” (between Katherine/Stefan/Elana/Damon) that we’ve been hearing about these past few months. P.s. Can we just say that Nina is kinda the luckiest.girl.ever since she gets to play the love interest to both our “VD” hotties?

But if you think the return of Katherine will send Stefan into another downward spiral — think again. Our boy’s finally embracing this little thing called happiness.

“I think what I look forward to with Stefan is that he gets rid of his guilt, gets rid of the dark cloud that he has hanging over him with being a vampire,” said Paul. “I think he’s going to explore different parts of his personality that will make him happy at times and jovial and instinctive.”

A happy Stefan? Don’t mind if we do.

I apologize for the long absence. I haven’t forgotten about the site. My computer motherboard was damaged making my computer unusable and I had to get it fixed. I got it back last night and so I am going to do my best to get everything back up to date. Stay tuned!

After 10 years as a successful but under-the-radar TV actor, Paul Wesley is suddenly everywhere. Last summer his face was on more than 30 “Vampire Diaries” posters at the Century City/Westfield mall alone, not to mention billboards over seemingly every major boulevard in Hollywood. A Twitter search brings up a dozen of “his” accounts (none of which, by the way, are run by Wesley or his representation). L.J. Smith’s “Vampire Diaries” novel series, first published nearly 20 years ago, is now being reprinted with images of Wesley and his co-stars, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, on the covers.

Still, none of it seems to have gone to his head. There’s no third-party publicist on the line when he calls me during a short break from filming in Atlanta, and he mentions that he’s only recently gotten himself a Los Angeles-based cellphone number. “I kept my New Jersey number literally until a year ago,” he says. “There’s something comforting about it.”

Now that “The Vampire Diaries” has returned from its extended fall hiatus, Wesley’s character, 162-year-old vampire Stefan Salvatore, is struggling to come to terms with his girlfriend becoming friends with his brother, the bloodthirsty and often maniacal Damon. Paul let me in on his dream role, Stefan’s potential dark side, and how Stefan might handle Katherine’s possible return.

Before we talk about what’s up next on “The Vampire Diaries,” I wanted to ask you about “24.” You’re playing Jack Bauer’s son-in-law. We haven’t seen a lot of your character, and obviously you’re busy out in Atlanta, but do you have any plans to return to “24”?

Not that I’m aware of. I’d auditioned for the show so many times over the years, and one day this character came about and they offered it to me, without an audition. I said “Absolutely.” When we shot my first two episodes of “24,” I didn’t even know that I had “Vampire Diaries.” I love the show, I’m a huge fan, and I think the acting is so good. The writers are great. If they were to expand the character, and I could make time for it, it’d be fantastic.
