A 71-year-old man has died following an alleged arson attack in Sydney’s west.
Terry Moorfield was taken to Nepean Hospital in a critical condition shortly before 7am on Tuesday following a house fire on Orth Street, Kingswood.
Police began investigating the fire, which they allege was deliberately lit.
Following inquiries, 63-year-old Donald Pickard was arrested nearby at 3.15pm and was also taken to Nepean Hospital.
After he was discharged, Pickard was taken to Penrith police station where he was charged with damaging property by fire with intent to injure, damaging property by fire and reckless grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and appeared at Penrith Local Court on Wednesday, where he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.
About 9pm on Saturday, Moorfield died in hospital.
Footage by Nine News showed the entire front of the house engulfed in flames. The news channel reported Moorfield lived alone and could not walk.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Pickard is next due to face court on September 5.
